Dmesg
This article is still a Stub. You can help Gentoo-Wiki by expanding it.
dmesg is used to examine or control the kernel ring buffer.
The program helps users to print out their bootup messages. Instead of
copying the messages by hand, the user need only:
dmesg > boot.messages
and mail the boot.messages file to whoever can debug their problem.
DMESG
Just started article, simple man page at http://www2.yo-linux.com/cgi-bin/man.cgi?topic=dmesg
To E-Mail the dmesg-output use the following command:
dmesg | sendmail 'youradress@yourhost.com'
On a correctly-functioning server, log messages will be appended to the output of 'dmesg' when run from the command prompt. In this situation, one can still access startup messages with 'cat /var/log/dmesg'. This is where dmesg stores the initial output after bootup.
