About F-spot
F-Spot is an application designed to provide simple yet feature rich personal photo management. Features include import, export, printing and advanced sorting of digital images.
Installation
Unmasking
As of Spring 2007, F-Spot is masked in the testing phase on Portage for x86, amd64, and ppc. Hence unmasking the package is necessary for those who want to use F-Spot at this time:
# echo "media-gfx/f-spot ~your arch" >> /etc/portage/package.keywords
amd64 users, you will find that most of the dependencies are masked. The following instructions will unmask the current list of dependencies:
| Code: unmasking for amd64 users |
function unmask() {
echo "$1 ~amd64" >> /etc/portage/package.keywords
}
unmask '>=dev-dotnet/gtkhtml-sharp-1.9*'
unmask '=dev-dotnet/art-sharp-2.3.92*'
unmask '=dev-dotnet/gtk-sharp-2.3.92*'
unmask '>=dev-lang/mono-1.0'
unmask '>=dev-dotnet/libgdiplus-1.1.9.2'
unmask '=dev-dotnet/gnome-sharp-2.3.92*'
unmask '~dev-dotnet/gnomevfs-sharp-2.3.92'
unmask '>=dev-dotnet/glade-sharp-1.9*'
unmask '>=dev-dotnet/gconf-sharp-1.9*'

Installing
Once your packages are correctly unmasked, run emerge. You will get a verbose list of packages to be installed without any message of masked packages.
- emerge --ask f-spot
Running
Make sure D-BUS is running:
$ /etc/init.d/dbus status
If it is not running, make it automatically start and thereafter start it (both as root):
# rc-update add dbus default # /etc/init.d/dbus start
If you are not using Gnome as your Window Manager, then you must use the following command to launch F-Spot:
$ dbus-launch f-spot
