It's installed on your computer, but in filesystem(s) having format(s) that Mac OS X cannot read. However, if you use ext2 (or ext3) filesystems under Linux, you can get access them by installing support for that filesystem type in OS X. The kernel extension and filesystem utilties are available from the ext2fsx project on SourceForge, [1]
