Kernel Config Tips
These are settings which I use for the hardware, and which I think you should probably use as well.
- Processor type and features
- MTRR (a requirement for another module later? graphics, I believe)
- Symmetric multi-processing support
- Multi-core scheduler support
- Maximum number of CPUs (2)
- Machine check support
- AMD MCE features
- Machine check support
- Power management options
- Power Management support

- Secure Digital Host Controller Interface support
- ATA/ATAPI/MFM/RLL support
Others: Since this is a notebook, you may wish to consider: CPU Frequency scaling, powersave, performance, conservative covernors; USB printer support; USB mass storage support. I'll assume you know how to select those as you're building your own kernel.
Persisting Issues
Sometimes the screen doesn't turn off while X has DPMS set. Only sometimes. DPMS can be forced with xset dpms force off, but that's an inelegant solution
I'm unsure on how to make the framebuffer work in the console
I'm unaware of a way to make the flashcard reader work. That's mostly because all the download locations for the O2Micro driver that I've seen are now defunct.
System Setup
Battery conservation/Runlevels
I believe this has been discussed in depth elsewhere.. anyone.. link?
