HOWTO_Gentoo_for_Xbox_360

To use Gentoo on an Xbox 360, the following is needed:

• Xbox with kernel 4532 or 4548
  • Remove R6T3 before upgrading to prevent efuses from being blown, allowing downgrading
  • Can be downgraded with efuses blown with timer-based attack
• DVD firmware modified to accept non-game disks
  • Done by connecting drive to computer via SATA cable
• King Kong game (not 'Classics')

Preparation

• Make modified King Kong game
  • Backup the King Kong disk (involves xbox dvd drive)
  • Compile and run patcher

./linux_patch kingkong.iso

• • Burn to a DVD
• Make modified gentoo livecd

Installation

• Start Xbox with modified King Kong disk
• Press start
• When drive ejects, insert Gentoo LiveCD
• Install Gentoo as normal with root fs in /dev/sda2
  • Use CFLAGS=-march=powerpc64 -Os
  • Don't compile a kernel

Booting

• Burn boot disk
• Start Xbox with modified King Kong disk
• Press start
• When drive ejects, insert boot disk
