HOWTO_sftp_command_line_completion
By default openssh's sftp client will not allow you to do bash style command line completion. This means for example you can't use the up arrow to repeat the last command or use tab to fill in file names. To make this work you need to use the libedit USE flag when compiling openssh. One way to do this is to add the following line to /etc/portage/package.use:
| File: /etc/portage/package.use |
net-misc/openssh libedit |
Now reemerge net-misc/openssh and enjoy.
