General
This is guide for Gentoo Linux AMD64 on an Easynote R3563 notebook.
This document is a mere documentation of what I did in order to successfully install Gentoo AMD64 on my laptop. Please note that I am a newbie to Gentoo Linux and basically Linux as a whole. This was first install on my own. This guide is designed for other users out there that are in the same boat as I, not very knowledgable on Linux or computers as a whole. Additional input from expert users will be gratefully accepted, especially on comments I make that might be wrong due to a lack of knowledge.

Installation procedure
Go to the web site www.gentoo.org, follow the Installation Docs link under the Installation section. Follow the Gentoo 2006.0 Handbook link and under Section 2. View the Handbook follow the AMD64 link.
Before I started the installation I obtained the Gentoo LIVECD AMD64 2006. I just followed the installation procedure as described in the documnetation. I am currently busy installing X11 and I will add information as I go along.
Networking
From the LIVECD boot you'll see that eth0 is picked up as the firewire port and eth1 is the network card.
When I type /etc/init.d/net.eth1 start <enter>, the computer is unable to establish a DHCP link. What I do in order to get the network going is to type ifconfig eth1 up <enter> and then /etc/init.d/net.eth1 start <enter>. I think this is to ensure that the NIC link is up.
