Realtek_ALC268

I had some problems with my FL59 Laptop (Nexoc Osiris E619). The sound was not hearable with the laptop speakers, with my stereo plugged in and turned up to the maximum volume there was a very quiet sound. I searched very long and now I found the solution.

It works fine for me with Kernel 2.6.22-gentoo-r2 without builtin ALSA nor OSS support. Install the alsa-drivers package (Version 1.0.14 works) and wait until emerge goes into the configuration process, then press CTRL-Z to pause emerge.

Get the two files attached to this entry (hda_proc.c and patch_realtek.c) and copy them both to the temporary portage dir. Something like this: /var/tmp/portage/media-sound/alsa-drivers-1.0.14/work/alsa-drivers/alsa-kernel/pci/hda

There these two files should already exist, overwrite them. I guess this will only work with version 1.0.14. And I guess this patch will be in 1.0.14-r1 or similar. Then just type fg to resume emerge, and when finished type

/etc/init.d/alsasound restart

If you've not already configured alsa to be started automatically don't forget to add it to the default runlevel rc-update add alsasound default
