Create a directory for the portage tree

mkdir /local/gentoo-portage

Create a directory for the repository files

mkdir /local/gentoo

Mirror the gentoo portage tree

rsync -avz europe.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage /local/gentoo-portage

Mirror the gentoo repository using rsync

rsync -avz rsync://mirror.bytemark.co.uk/gentoo/ /local/gentoo
