Veritas_Netbackup_Client
|
Introduction
- 1. this wiki page will detail a procedure used to install the Veritas Netbackup 6 MP4 client on a Gentoo linux machine.
- 2. this has worked well at our site but your mileage may vary depending on the setup at yours
- 3. please consider this a work in progress and do feel free to improve this wiki page
Veritas Netbackup Server Configuration
- 1. add an entry for the the Gentoo linux server's FQDN and IP Address to the /etc/hosts file on the Vertias Netbackup Master server
- 2. add the Gentoo Linux machine as a client to the Veritas Netbackup policy which will be used to backup the Gentoo Linux machine, the machine type for the Gentoo Linux machine should be "Red Hat 2.4"
- 3. get the Veritas Netbackup client files onto the Gentoo Linux machine by:
/usr/openv/netbackup/bin/install_client_files ftp <gentoo hostname> <gentoo machines user name for ftp>
- 4. get any Veritas Netbackup client patches onto the Gentoo Linux machine
Gentoo Linux Configuration
- 1. add an entry for the the Veritas Netbackup Master server's FQDN and IP Address to the /etc/hosts file on the Gentoo linux machine
- 2. look up the proper USE flags for the lib-compat package from http://gentoo-portage.com/USE
- 3. add those USE flags to /etc/portage/package.use
- 4. emerge --pretend lib-compat and ensure there are no blocked dependencies and if so resolve those issues
- 5. emerge lib-compat
- 5++. If you do not have libstdc++, emerge it.
- 6. do the same for the xinetd package if it is not already installed on your Gentoo Linux machine
- 7. comment out lines 856 through 860 in the /tmp/bp.xxxxx/client_config file
- 8. add the following line to the /tmp/bp.xxxxx/client_config file as line number 861:
/etc/init.d/xinetd reload
- 9. install the Veritas Netbackup client onto the Gentoo Linux machine via user root "sh /tmp/bp.xxxxx/client_config"
- 10. install any Veritas Netbackup client patches onto the Gentoo Linux machine
- 11. edit the file /etc/xinetd.d/bpcd adding the following line:
only_from = IP Address of Veritas Netbackup Master Server
so your /etc/xinetd.d/bpcd file should like similar to the following:
# Service bpcd for NetBackup
service bpcd
{
socket_type = stream
protocol = tcp
wait = no
user = root
server = /usr/openv/netbackup/bin/bpcd
disable = no
only_from = xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
}
- 12. restart xinetd: as root run "/etc/init.d/xinetd restart"
Testing the Configuration
- 1. you should now be able to click on the Gentoo Linux machine's name in the Veritas Netbackup Java GUI's Clients window and see that the Gentoo Linux machine is "Connected".
- 2. if not you will need to troubleshoot the configuration per your sites needs.
- 3. if you are "Connected" please initiate a backup and then a restore to test your setup.
- Good luck!
